for this case we must apply distributive property to the following expression:

    [tex]-2 (2.1x + 3y-0.8)[/tex]

    the distributive property states that:

    [tex](a + b) (c + d) = ac + ad + bc + bd[/tex]

then, when applying the property we have to multiply the -2 for each term within the parenthesis:

    [tex]-4.2x-6y + 1.6[/tex]

    [tex]-4.2x-6y + 1.6[/tex]

    x is equal to 16

    Step-by-step explanation:

Combine multiplied terms into a single fraction

    Multiply by 1

Subtract  7 from both sides of the equation

    Simplify it

Subtract  3  from both sides of the equation

    Simplify

Multiply all terms by the same value to eliminate fraction denominators

    Simplify

Subtract  2 from both sides of the equation

    Simplify

Divide both sides of the equation by the same term

    Simplify!

    That's it!
