Someone who was born in America, but whose parents were not born in America

    Explanation:

First-generation Americans are people who are among the first of their family to be born in the United States. Before they were born, their parents immigrated or traveled to America, and they were born in the country, making them a citizen. Similarly, a second-generation American is someone whose parents were first-generation Americans, and their grandparents were not American.
