An air traffic controler is tracking two planes. To start, Plane A was at an altitude of 990 meters, and Plane B was at an altitude of 1476 meters. Plane A ls losing altitude at 18 meters per second, and Plane B is losing altitude at 27 meters per second.

Let x be the number of seconds that have passed.

(a) For each plane, write an expression for the altitude of the plane
after x seconds.
Altitude of Plane A (In meters) =
Altitude of Plane B (in meters) =

(B) Write an equation to show when the two planes would be at the same altitude

  1. hello from mrbilldoesmath!

    answer:

    25x^2 + 90x + 84

    discussion:

    mn(x) = m(n(x)) = m( 5x + 9) =

    (5x + 9)^2 + 3 =>

    25x^2 + 90x + 9^2 + 3 =

    25x^2 + 90x + 84                 (as 9^2 = 9*9 = 81)

    which is the second choice
