    1.  Imperialism

    A. The domination by one country of the political, economic, and/or cultural life of another country or region.

    2. direct control colony

    D. The type of colonial rule favored by the French. In this type of colonial rule, officials and soldiers from the imperial county were sent to control the colony.

    3.  indirect control colony

    B. This type of colonial rule was favored by the British. In this type of colonial rule, local rules such as kings or sultans were left in place to govern the colonies. The British felt that this would lessen the possibility of a revolt.

    4.  protectorate

    C. A form of imperial rule in which local rulers were left in place but were expected to follow the advice of imperial advisors on issues such as trade or missionary activity. These countries are still independent countries but they are under the protection of the more powerful imperial country.

    5.  spheres of influence

    E. An area in which an outside power claims exclusive trading rights with an area. These privileges were expected to be honored under the threat of military force.

    The right answers are these:

A goes with 5 (Spheres of influence)

    B goes with 4 (Protectorate)

    C goes with 1 (Imperialism)

D goes with 2 (Direct control colony).

E goes with 3 (Indirect control colony).

Explanation: Just to elaborate on some of the answers, it can be added that while a direct control colony, or direct colonial rule, is a more extreme, and arguably more illustrative, example of the policy of imperialism, since it virtually excludes the local population from the government of their territory, an indirect control colony, such as a protectorate, is somehow a more "benevolent" example of imperialistic control, since it grants the territory some autonomy and independence.

    Here's your correct matching arrangements:

    1.  This form of imperial rule involved claiming exclusive trading rights in certain areas. Trading rights must be granted under the threat of military force. In the 19th century, this type of imperial rule was used by countries such as Great Britain, France, Portugal, Russia, and Japan in China.

    SPHERE OF INFLUENCE

    2.  Local rulers such as kings or sultans were used to govern the colonies in order to lessen the possibility of a revolt. Great Britain practiced this type of imperialism.

    INDIRECT CONTROL COLONY

    3.  A form of imperial rule in which local rulers were left in place, however, they were expected to follow the advice of imperial advisers on issues such as trade and missionary activity. In this form of imperial rule, the countries are still independent, however, they are under the protection of an imperial country.

    PROTECTORATE

    4.  Officials and soldiers from the imperial country were sent to control the colony. This type of imperial rule was practiced by the French.

    1.  Protectorate is a relation between two states or countries wherein the weaker one is dependent on the strongest one that put it under protection. So the best definition that concides with the given description is B. country with its own government but under the control of another outside power

    2. Sphere of Influence is a type of international relationships wherein one territory shares its culture, economic, military, or political exclusivity in order to satisfy needs of the ouside powers of the state that put this territory under control. The best option is E. Area in which an outside power claims exclusive investment rights

    3. Direct rule is a system of a governmental rule in which  the central authority has power over the whole country. It means that all the provinces or states belong to central autrority and follows the same laws and rules as the other regions of a country. Also, every decision is made only by authoruty, not by people. As well as indirect system it was employed during imperialism so the most suitable definition - C. Officials were sent to govern a colony from the ruling country

    4. The point that makes Indirect Rule different from Direct Rule is that this system of governmental rule allows locals to take part in some decision devoted to the local (depending on area) laws. In this case authority has less power that people so the correct definition is A. Local rulers stayed in power under European “guidance”

    5. And concession is a special economic rights given to a foreign power. Concession is usually made regarding to agreement between two countries  that have common aims and want to achieve certain common goals. The correct answer is D.
